Screw Manufacturing Process

The manufacturing process of screws involves multiple links, each of which has an important impact on the final quality and performance of the screws. The following are the main process steps for screw manufacturing:

1. Wire Preparation

The first step in manufacturing screws is to select suitable wires. Carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, aluminum and other materials are usually used. The diameter and material of the wire are determined by the specifications and purpose of the screw.

2. Cold Heading

Cold heading is a process in which the wire is plastically deformed at room temperature through a punch to form the head of the screw. This step determines the head shape of the screw, such as flat head, round head, pan head, etc.

3. Thread Rolling

Thread rolling is a process in which the screw is squeezed through two dies with a thread shape to form a thread. Compared with the method of cutting to form threads, the thread-rolling process improves the strength and precision of the screw.

4. Heat Treatment

For screws that require high strength, heat treatment is usually required. Heat treatment includes quenching and tempering, the purpose of which is to improve the hardness and wear resistance of the screw.

5. Surface Treatment

Surface treatment includes processes such as zinc plating, nickel plating, chrome plating, and phosphating. Surface treatment can improve the corrosion resistance and appearance quality of screws.

6. Inspection and Packaging

After manufacturing, screws need to undergo strict quality inspection, including size inspection, hardness test, thread accuracy, etc. Only qualified products can be packaged and shipped.
